Slowly Changing the World

Hello Humans! So today, I thought I would talk about how some people of power use their influence to change the world for better. As of lately, I’ve been talking to lots of people who keep talking about how there is so much bad in the world. While that is true, not all of the world is pure evil. That is just what the media reports, because sadly, gore, war, and evil things are what “people want to see.” Personally, I hate seeing all that crap. It knocks my good vibes out and lets negativity in, so I stay as far away from the media as I can. So I am going to report three people, and then what I want to do to change the world for better. These people inspire me every day to be better and you might be surprised at who I post about today, because they may not be the people you would originally think of when it comes to charity and good causes around the world.

First up is the Who. The Who have two members, who have been in it since 1964 when the band broke big, named Pete Townshend, and Roger Daltrey. One day, Roger encountered a young girl with cancer, she was in her teens. Roger talks to Pete about the feelings this girl portrayed to Roger. She had told him that it was hard because she felt like she was the only teenager who had cancer at her school. So helped to start this AMAZING organization for teens with cancer, called “The Teen Cancer Fund.” What this money goes towards is building, essentially hospitals, for only teens with cancer. Roger has said many times that he remembers when he was back in his teens, that he needed other teenagers to relate to, and that’s why he is so for this charity. The facilities allow teen cancer patients, families, and doctors to all live together to help teens with cancer feel more at home and like themselves. They get to have fun together and many activities are provided, along with their cancer treatments. It’s a super cool charity, and Pete and Roger actively have signed pictures, guitars, vinyl records, and clothing that they sell to raise money for this charity. Thank you Pete and Roger for not only your amazing music that has blessed the lives of so many, but also for your example in helping the world be a better place.

Secondly, is not really anyone in particular, but just the people around you. Or at least, here in Hawaii, anyways. People are so giving over here, it’s insane. For instance, proabably the worst thing over here is the food. Not because it tastes gross or anything, but because it’s so expensive. You eat less just because it costs so much money to buy good. My ward had a “back-to-school” dinner last night, and my roommates introduced me to our home teacher. First of all, the church is true. Second of all, he was so super nice! And he offered to drive us to Costco so we could save quite a lot of money right before we have to pay for books, tuition, and room and board. He let us use his membership card to pay with, because neither of us had membership cards. When we asked him how much we owed him for gas, he just said, “Your company is enough.” Man, what a great and super nice guy. And he’s just one example. Every time I say “Hello” to one of my friends on the street, even if they’re in a huge hurry, they always ask how I’m doing and make sure that I have everything I need, and it usually results in either us planning an activity together, or a Sunday dinner. The community over here in Laie is unlike any other.

Thirdly, is probably my favorite. For I saved the best for last. And this comes from the weirdest spot on the world wide web possible, and from a man you wouldn’t expect it from. His name, is Mark Fischbach. He is a gamer, and a “Let’s Player” on YouTube, and known better as Markiplier. I watch his channel regularly, and by that I mean on a daily basis. He makes so many people happy through his funny comments and unique personality. I personally connect with him, because he was an Engineering Major, which is connected to the realm of science. He includes his fans in almost everything he does and is so grateful for the community that surrounds him. At 18 million subscribers, that’s a big feat to do. But the thing that is super cool about Markiplier, is that he, even though he is in not required by any kind of YouTube red tape or contract, every month does some sort of Charity Livestream. Mark picks a random charity, usually suggested by a fan, and all of the money generated from the livestream goes to it. During these Charity Livestreams, which are usually on the last day of the month, and last the entire day of him and his team putting on funny skits, talking to fans through the chat, showing off fan-art, and even sometimes playing video games. These Charity Livestreams by themselves raise a TON of money, like thousands and thousands of dollars, but he also releases some “limited edition charity merch,” for every live stream. These items are sold during the week of the Charity Livestream, and all of the proceeds raised from this merch go to the charity. So, while Markiplier could be making thousands of dollars off of “limited edition merch,” and getting sponsored on his livestreams like PewDiePie, he doesn’t. He donates it all to help make the world better. He always says that he is amazed by the amount of merch purchased and money donated towards these causes and that he is so grateful to be able to have such a great community surrounding him so that he can help make a difference in the world. So thank you Markiplier for making all of us Nerdy-people laugh, and by using your power and influence to make a difference in the world.

And now, to talk about me. What the heck do I want to do to change the world? Well, if possible, I would deem myself ruler of the galaxy and declare “Galactic Peace,” but that isn’t possible. I have always wanted to help people; I just haven’t known how. I’ll talk about it more in a later post, but I really want to use my scientific knowledge to help people with disabilities. At first, people think veterans who need a prosthetic limb, but no. I’m thinking people with bigger disabilities than missing an arm or a leg. By seeing my Aunt when some big breakthrough comes out about a new technology or study that has helped kids with Autism be better off in life, her face just lights up. I want to do that to someone. But what can you do to change the world? Even if it’s as small as just one person’s world, what will you do? Comment below! Stay wild, flower child.
