Second Chances.
Hello Humans! So as I don't love to admit it, I struggled with a few topics in Chemistry last year. And by struggled, I mean, I got the concept and could do the math, but my brain didn't retain it well. I finished the first chapter in my O-Chem textbook, and looked onto chapter 2 to see what I was going to study next. I thought that we'd start learning the naming of the different kinds of organic chemicals, but that's not until the end of the chapter. We actually learn how the molecule works before we learn how to name it. Weird, right? Well, not really. The rules for how the organic chemicals work are the same for the chemicals we used in Gen-Chem last year. They are: Chemical Thermodynamics and Chemical Kinetics.
Two of my least favorite words: Thermodynamics and Kinetics. Unless it's in physics, because then it is all really easy plug-and-chug problems. Anyways, I get to review and re-learn those two topics to further engrain them into my brain! And I couldn't be more excited, but also more bummed out at the same time. I mean, come one, let's learn some NEW Chemistry here! And even when we are finished reviewing Chemical Thermodynamics and Kinetics, we STILL have to review. But it's Acids and Bases which are my friends! I got Acids and Bases better than I did Kinetics and Thermodynamics, and could practically do a titration with my eyes closed, but I was just memorizing stuff. I want to learn it this time around, and I can't wait to do it. Whether that's now, in my O-Chem book, or next semester when I have to tutor it to the Gen-Chem class I am assisting with.
It just goes to show you that there are second chances. They don't happen that often in life, especially when you get into the "real-adult-world," so I'm going to take every advantage of these second chances I'm getting now and learn the Science! And I'm excited to do so. But now, I got to go study Chemistry, and learn about Thermodynamics and Kinetics. Stay wild, flower child.
