A New Perspective

Hello Humans! Part of my Gen-Chem class tutoring job is going to the Gen-Chem class. Makes sense, right? I need to know what the students are currently learning and what they already know so that I can help the Chemistry make sense in their brains. Yesterday I was sitting in my normal back-row far-left-corner seat listening and taking a few notes here and there. It's a really easy class right now, as they are just learning what is a compound vs. a pure element, and homogenous mixtures vs. heterogenous mixtures. But the professor answered some questions on the reading before class started. One kid asked if Science is actually related to Religion, and if so, were humans even on the right track of discovering how the universe was made and how everything works. The Professor, who is now one of my favorite Professors, answered in a way that I had thought of before, but put more information into it.

He said that we are on the right track, but that there is conflict in the human mind. Most of the super-religious in the world don't believe in Evolution, even though it is a fact of life. It is happening in the air around you. Virus's and Bacteria are evolving to survive the anti-bacterial pill you take or a vaccine you get at the Doctor's office. Why do you think we need a new flu shot every year? Is it just for fun? Nope, it's because the Flu Virus evolves to survive that vaccine. But the Professor said that we don't know how God came about creating life on Earth, and that Evolution could have been one of his methods or tools for creating life. He also talked about the Big Bang Theory, which has less scientific proof than Evolution, but he also said that the Earth could have STARTED from an explosion caused by God, or the explosion could have been due to taking atoms away from an unstable star.

The same goes with the age-old debate about how old the Earth is. Most people will say that it is millions and billions of year old. I had never thought about it this way until the Professor said that we don't know how long it took to create the Earth, or for animals and plants to evolve. The only time reference we have for the creation of the world is "7 days," but we don't know how long a day is in God's time, because time is only a natural-man measurement.
And while all of this is hunky-dory, and relative, I find solace in it. Why? Because as I am learning more and more about Science, I am learning more and more about God. I am learning how he works, how he creates, and how he knows, sees, and does all. These things are called the Laws of Physics, Reactions of Chemistry, Theories of Biology, and Equations of Mathematics. Because if God is truly never-changing, the world we live in applies to the same Laws of Science that our Heavenly Home and Family does.

Also, I got new glasses and LOVE them! I wanted them to look like Science-Safety Glasses, and I LOVE them to death! Stay wild, flower child.
