Newton's Third Law of Motion, and the Atonement.

Hello Humans! So, in my Religion class today, we got to discuss my most favorite topic in all of the gospel: The Atonement. I LOVE the Atonement, because it's so cool. It's also kind of vague, but we'll get to that later. So, first of all, before the Atonement was even planned, there needed to be a need for the Plan of Happiness to have one. Well, this is where SCIENCE comes into it. For every action we do, whether good or evil, there needs to be a consequence, whether good or evil. The main one we discussed today was when you sin, and you don't repent of it, you will pay for it, after you're resurrected so that your body can handle the suffering. My professor said this in a way that made it sound like this: for every action, there is a consequence. This sounds pretty normal, until today when my mind exploded.

Physics. Nikola Tesla, one of my heroes in the Science world once said, "What one man calls God, another calls The Laws of Physics." I have this as the screensaver on both my laptop and my phone. Why? Mary, this quote is contridictory to the Gospel. Not true. Not anywhere in the quote does it say that God is not real. It says that God and the Laws of Physics are one and the same, which is totally the truth. Science is God, and God is Science. Why? Well, God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever, so he must have some rules and boundaries set for himself and his power, just like we have rules and boundaries set for us to "become like Gods." It only makes sense that that is the case. Well, these Laws of Science on our planet are God's Laws. Just remember, none of this is really church doctrine, but the impressions and feelings that I've received while studying here on the Island. Let's wait for a prophet or apostle to testify of it over a pulpit before we go preaching it. I am merely presenting my findings and connections.

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." -Sir Isaac Newton. This is also known as Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, one of the simplest Laws of Physics that there is. For example, when you punch your little brother for killing you, on purpose, during your late-night play-through of Lego Jurassic Park, your arm is hitting his arm with a Force with a value that we could calculate. However, his face is also hitting your arm at the same force that your arm is hitting his face.

Now we have out knowns thrown out there, we can connect all the dots. When my Religion professor said, "For every action, there is a consequence," my mind immediately went to, "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that if I punch my brother, he will punch me back, but it means that if I punch my brother, I will eventually have to pay for that action, whether it's in this life, or in the next. However, there is this wonderful thing called "Repentance," which takes that payment away. It's like when you evaporate water into water vapor. Sure, in this life you may pay by dying of thirst, or not having enough water, or you may "repent" of your mistake by condensing the water vapor into water. And, just like repentance, this chemical reaction teaches you a lesson, because now you know not to evaporate water when you need to drink it. Just like how I now know to not punch my brother, because maybe he punched me back, or because maybe I felt bad. Get it? Newton's Third Law of Motion is the basis of the Atonement.

The second thing that my mind blew up for, was when my Professor was discussing how no one knows how the Savior went through an eternity of human lives and feelings and sins in just a few hours. My mind immediately went to one of my favorite Science topics: LIGHT, specifically: THE SPEED OF LIGHT. We discussed this in a different post, but the simple version is, if I was to travel at near the speed of light, and then return to this spot, you all would have aged a lot, and I would be the same age. So, again, this is not gospel doctrine, but merely the connections and thoughts of my own brain, but it makes sense. He's part God, and that means he can travel at the Speed of Light, which enabled him to experience an eternity of lives in a few hours.

Even though the Science makes the Atonement that much more real to me, I knew it actually happened and worked long before I connected the dots this morning. I know that the Atonement works and exists because of experiences and feelings of peace from my own life. I will never be able to re-pay the debt that I owe to my Savior for paying for my sins, but I can at least try to spread his word around to a few people and keep his Laws. I love my Savior more than any words will ever be able to express. He has done so much for me, and put me in an amazing and beautiful place to live, while I study the thing that I love and find myself. And he has done so much for you, too. Stay wild, flower child.
